Abstract

Impalement injuries to the abdomen are a type of penetrating injury after stab wounds and gunshot wounds. Exploration is routinely required because often the nature and extent of the injury cannot be diagnosed preo peratively. Extrication of the impaled object in the operating room under controlled conditions is important. A multidisciplinary approach is often required.
